There are basic skills everyone needs in life: communication, friendship, and the ability to change a flat tire. Its easier than most think and it can be done by anyone. No one thinks they need to know how to do it, until they actually get a flat. Don't be the person that is trying to flag down drivers because you can't change a flat tire yourself.
Step 1: Pull the jack and spare tire out of the car, usually located underneath the floorboard of the trunk
Step 2: Place the jack underneath the car, and line it up with the jack point (check owners manual).
Step 3: Use your tire iron and loosen all the lug nuts off the tire, then remove the tire.
Step 4: Place the spare tire on the car and tighten the lugs about 90%.
Step 5: Lower the car and tighten the lugs as tight as you can.
You need to keep the flat tire so that the new tire can be placed on the rim. The rule of thumb is to never drive more than 45 mph and never drive farther than 200 miles.
